HELLEN Buteme, the captain for Thunderbirds women rugby team has expressed the confidence that her side is ready to take on the East Africa challenge in the inaugural women tournament at Kyadondo ground today.
“We expect some challenge in this tournament especially from our archrivals Mwamba Invaders RFC, but we shall play our game as always and as usual aim for the best results,” a confident Buteme said.

The Uganda team has enjoyed a good spell of victories in the region ever since its establishment two years back.

The side has lifted the Kabeberi sevens, Kisumu and Safari sevens previously after displaying excellent skills away from home.
In their last meet, Thunderbirds beat Mwamba RFC 12-5 during the Safari sevens in Nairobi where Buteme scooped the Most Valued Player (MVP) award.

“The girls are all in sound form and ready to take on the visitors. Some of them could be tense because it will be the first time that we are competing at home but we shall definitely satisfy our fans,” Buteme added.

Players like match maker Hadija Namuyanja and speed merchant Asaha Sonko could be a revelation for Uganda.
