Way back,we used to rent rooms adjacent to each other on the same block. I had always admired Doreen, but since I was a man of God, conversations ended at greetings in the name of the Lord. At one point, I could not help, but to take the conversation to another level.
One day, I drilled a hole in the wall enough to pass a sizeable pipe through to Doreen’s room. I then carefully pushed the pipe at the level below her bed. In the late hours of the night while Doreen was sleeping in her room, I cleared my voice loudly and spoke through the pipe, “Doreen don’t be afraid, the Lord has finally found favour with you,†I would say. Doreen could not recognise my voice since it would come as a shock in her sleep. ‘You will have a son and you shall name him Peter and his father will be Stephen, your neighbour,†I would add.
This news had carried Doreen like a wind and she believed it was the Lord speaking to her loud and clear in her sleep. She knocked my door the following day and narrated to me her encounter with God in her sleep. Deep in my heart I felt an overriding joy knowing so well that my dream was almost coming true, but I pretended to be surprised nevertheless. I then told her that God is great and this must be what is in store for us.
Days later, we went for an HIV test and we fortunately, found ourselves free. We then started studying each other as courtship went on for three good years. Here we are as husband and wife.â€
Christians went wild with chants of ‘praise God’. They were deeply shocked by the courage, which Stephen had to share such testimony. Throughout the testimony session, Doreen listened attentively in shock as Stephen spilled the beans. She did not comment.
