Four people died and about 20 sustained serious injuries when two buses, one carrying a wedding party, rammed into each other on the Kampala-Masaka highway on Saturday.
The accident occurred at about 2:00pm at Lwera, 23 miles from Masaka town.
The police identified the dead as Paul Kyobe Mubiru, driver of the Coaster omnibus number UAE 187T, carrying the traditional wedding (kwanjula) party from Zana in Kampala, and Mama Baker, who was among the entourage.
The others are the groom’s spokesman, only identified as Kamyufu and Bogere, the driver of the Isuzu Coach number UAD725U, on its way from Kasese to Kampala. Some of the victims were taken to Kitovu hospital.
The groom, James Kakooza, working with the lands ministry, survived the crash because he was in another vehicle.
Kakooza said he had been given the coach by the Zana Community Presbyterian Church to transport his entourage to Bukomansimbi where his introduction to the family of Annette Nanziri was to take place. The function was cancelled.
Masaka traffic officer Jessica Kabasindi said the coaster driver was overtaking a taxi and the one of the coach was dodging a trailer when they collided.
