Varsities off to Kenya for East Africa games

THE East African University games board of directors has made a players-plus-more games bid for the 2004 edition of the regional championships to be held at the Jomo Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.

THE East African University games board of directors has made a players-plus-more games bid for the 2004 edition of the regional championships to be held at the Jomo Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.

Twelve Universities set off for Nairobi today for the games which start on Thursday.

Four more disciplines — tae-kwondo, boxing, martial arts and scrabble — have been incorporated in the annual 17-game competition.

Makerere University is the overall university games defending champions.

Other Universities representing Uganda include, Kampala International University (KIU), Ndejje, Nkumba, MUBS, Kyambogo, Uganda Christian University, Gulu, IUIU, Kampala, Mbarara and Bugema University.

“The competition has been stiffened for us as we have had to prepare participants for these new games so as to defend our title successfully,” MUK sports tutor Peninah Kabenge revealed.

Makerere University are expected to put up a convincing show as they take on determined Universities from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi during the weeklong event.
