THE works ministry, the Police and the Kampala City Council (KCC) are to begin identifying boda boda (motor cycle) stages and registering the riders in an effort to streamline their operations in the city, writes Steven Candia.

Kampala Police chief Benson Oyo Nyeko on Thursday said the decision was reached at a joint meeting between the Police, KCC and works ministry officials.

He said authorities hope to establish the number of boda boda stages, cyclists and their identities and to which city division each boda boda belongs.

“At the moment we don’t know how many boda boda cyclists operate in the city,” Nyeko said.
The cyclists will be expected to pay for an operator’s licence to the works ministry.
