PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni yesterday met the British High Commissioner, Adam Wood, to discuss a sh480b budget support initiative to Uganda.

Wood and the head of the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Eric Hawthorn, met Museveni at State House, Nakasero yesterday.

The grant will be disbursed over the next three years for poverty alleviation programmes and for implementing the revised Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP).

A press statement from State House said sh133b would be released this financial year (2004/05).

“A press release from the office of the British Department for International Development in Kampala said this new arrangement further consolidates the strong partnership that exists between Uganda and the United Kingdom,” the State House statement said.

It added that the grant should enable Uganda reduce poverty further and achieve its Millennium Development Goals.

Investments state minister Sam Kutesa, acting foreign affairs minister Tom Butime and foreign affairs acting Permanent secretary, Julius Onen attended the meeting.
