SOROTI — Three police officers, who shot at a mob protesting the selling of land in Aukot last Monday and injured nine people have been arrested. The district police commander, Anatosi Biiso, said the trio claimed to have acted on court orders. Regional CID chief Hillary Odoch said the two constables and the officer who deployed them to accompany a Kampala-based businessman, Patrick Ochen, to survey the land, were arrested after the shoot-out.

Thugs attack
NAKAPIRIPIRIT — Thugs on Wednesday attacked the chief administrative officer, Churchill Lokoroi. Lokoroi said seven armed men broke into his compound in the town centre at around 2:00am, adding that the thugs fled after one of the local administration police personnel fired shots in the air.

Team formed
TORORO — The district has launched an HIV/AIDS committee with a call on members to implement the goals of the programme. The district director of health services, Dr. David Okumu, told the youth at the launching ceremony at Rock Hotel on Friday that since everybody had been affected by AIDS, the team should not be underrated.

One freed
IGANGA — Chief magistrate David Ndikabona Batema has withdrawn charges against the Mayuge chief finance officer, James Kisita. The withdrawal follows the discontinuing of proceeding against Kisita by the director for public prosecution, Richard Butera.

Man arrested
JINJA — A 33-year-old man has appeared in court over burglary and theft of battery acid worth sh1m. Yusuf Magumba and others still large committed the offence on the night of December 15 at Clive road in the municipality.
