THE south-western regional coordinator for wetlands, Robert Bagyenda, has appealed to rural communities to elect responsible leaders to safeguard their future through conserving natural resources, reports Pascal Niwebyona.He said the Government has prioritised wetland protection and had released funds to sub-counties under the Poverty Action Fund to ensure their wise use.Bagyenda, who was addressing the Rushebeya-Kanyabaha wetland users meeting in Kabale recently at Rwamucucu sub-county grounds, said communities can only benefit if their leaders formulate appropriate policies and project to tap the money.The meeting was reviewing the recently passed management plan for wetlands whose major stakeholders include fishermen, hunters, crafts makers, grazers and cultivators.
