Slain Student’s Body Buried In UPC Coffin

The body of Jimmy Higenyi, the Uganda Media Trainers and Consultants (UMCAT) journalism student who was over the weekend shot by the Police at Uganda House, has been buried in a casket bought by UPC.

By Vision ReporterThe body of Jimmy Higenyi, the Uganda Media Trainers and Consultants (UMCAT) journalism student who was over the weekend shot by the Police at Uganda House, has been buried in a casket bought by UPC.Media reports on Tuesday said Higenyi’s family had rejected a sh1.2m metallic grey casket bought by UPC in preference to an oak-brown wooden one sent by the Government. Higenyi’s remains were on Tuesday transported to Namutima in Bunyole, Tororo district, soon after the aborted funeral service arranged by multi-partyists at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero.The New Vision has learnt that Higenyi’s uncle, Prisons Commissioner General Joseph Etima, transported the body to Bunyole in the Government coffin.Sources said Etima was surprised to find the UPC’s with their casket which other family members preferred. The body was transferred into the UPC coffin.The New Vision on Wednesday attended the Higenyi’s burial. He was laid to rest in the UPC coffin. Tororo RDC Amooti Rwebembera, LC5 chairman Eric Nabbala, Woman MP Dorothy Hyuha and UPC national chairman Hajji Badru Wegulo attended the burial.Family sources said the Government coffin was to be destroyed in a traditional ceremony on Wednesday.In a related development, Higenyi’s family has asked the Police to explain what happened to sh700,000 reportedly released by the Government for the funeral expenses.Ends
