By Norman Katende THREE days after the co-sponsors (MTN, BAT and Coca-Cola) pulling out of the Nile Special Super League, Nile Breweries and Shell are also contemplating their next step.In yesterday’s press release signed by Nile Breweries brand manager David Nsiyoona, words were not minced about their being let down by the current FUFA.“We as main sponsors are deeply concerned with the steady deterioration of Ugandan professional football in general and, the league in particular,” read part of the release.“This situation has been exacerbated by the withdraw of all the co-sponsors with the exception of Shell, just 24 hours before commencement of the new league season.”The release said that the sudden withdraw of the partners is regrettable but does highlight the crisis which Uganda’s football finds itself with daily controversies that include accusations and counter-accusations of officials and individuals.“In any legitimate entity, success is ultimately dependent on the integrity and strength of its leadership...We as sponsors expect those qualities from FUFA.”They quoted incidents were FUFA officials have made outrageous public statements like “their hand are tied over the transport money” or “the clubs are going to get their cash” while sensitive discussions were still going on. “With these concerns, Nile Breweries together with Shell are reconsidering their position.”ends
