SIR— We respond to the front-page story in The New Vision of Saturday March 16 concerning remarks attributed to Vice-President Specioza Wandira Kazibwe. If your report is an accurate representation of the Vice-President’s words, then we are utterly disappointed. It is a great source of pride to us women in Uganda that one of us is the vice-president of this great nation. But for her to make utterances such as, “Why should somebody bother about someone sleeping with someone somewhere? ...It is nobody’s business who sleeps with who, when and where...” leaves us hanging our heads in shame. Is that what the Vice President is saying that we should expect of our young sons and daughters to become — anything and do anything they want? Are politicians supposed to be accountable to nobody? Are these the values the Vice-President would want our children to emulate as they aim for high positions like hers? Here we are, trying to promote morals and values in our society, especially the next generation of Ugandan leaders and the person supposed to support this the most, especially with the advantage of her position, is doing the reverse!Olivia Kyambadde, Mabel Kiggundu, Beatrice Langa, Jessica LuzziHarmony Uganda
