BUSHENYI district speaker Peter Rwakifari has said that the district is to make a bylaw that will force all boarding schools in the district to include milk on their menus as a measure to promote dairy farming in the district. “The price of milk has drastically fallen discouraging more farmers from venturing into dairy farming. “To address this, effective this financial year (2002-03), the district will make a bylaw that will force all boarding primary and secondary schools to consume milk. “As the demand increases, prices will automatically rise again,’’ he said. Rwakifari disclosed this to journalists at park house inn, in Ishaka town on Saturday. He said the price of milk has fallen from sh400 a litre to sh300 at dairy centres. He also said that some farmers sell a litre at sh200 which he called “give away prices’’ for farmers. “Unless government thinks beyond this level, no person will ever beconvinced in future that there is life in farming business. The nextgeneration may develop a negative image on agriculture which is a big blowfor a country like Uganda where agriculture is a backbone of the economy’’,he said.
