Kategaya To Mediate UNRFII Yumbe Talks

THE Government has set a nine-member team led by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Eriya Kategaya, to talk peace with UNRFII rebels in Yumbe district, reports Ahmed Angulibo.

THE Government has set a nine-member team led by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Eriya Kategaya, to talk peace with UNRFII rebels in Yumbe district, reports Ahmed Angulibo.This was revealed on Saturday by the UPDF’s chief political commissar and military advisor to President Yoweri Museveni on revenue protection service, Brig. Kale Kaihura, at a meeting called by UNRFII chairman and commander-in-chief, Maj. Gen. Ali Bamuze.Kaihura said the team includes himself, state minister for regional cooperation Kahinda Otafiire, Aringa-Obongi Peace Initiative Committee chairman Col. Nasur Izaruku. He said the government was happy with Bamuze’s return and urged his group not to be worried. He assured them that the Government has no problem with the people of Aringa.“The peace process started in November 1998 and in the process we developed confidence and trust among each other. I hope this last phase is going to be very short,” Kaihura said.He thanked Bamuze for bringing peace in Yumbe district and the people of Aringa for rejecting rebellion.Ends
