By John OmodingYou may bet the last shilling in your wallet to differ, but the man who has tasted Soroti’s edible rats says they are a delicacy.The Soroti LC5 councillor for Gweri sub-county, Richard Ongodia, stunned residents when he bought an edible rat commonly known in Ateso as ebebele at sh500 for a meal.This was at a function to mark the World Health Day in Serere, Soroti district.Ongodia paid Benedict Etoku, the old man who had trapped the animal the previous night. Ongodia told the amazed onlookers, “I used to eat big rats and they are very nice.”Ongodia said he was implementing what the World Health Day stood for. He said he had bought the big rat because its very nutritious and therefore good for health.Ends
