MAKERERE University students will for the first time be represented on the Senate with the new Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Bill.

By Fortunate Ahimbisibwe MAKERERE University students will for the first time be represented on the Senate with the new Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Bill. The university is in the process of nominating new representatives to the senate after the previous membership expired last month on graduation day.The university Academic Registrar, Sebastian Ngobi, told The New Vision that the process of forming a new senate was in its late stages.He said, “We are in the final stages of forming a new senate which will this time include the students representatives.”“The new senate will be in place in about two weeks time,” Ngobi said.“Students representation will be done through the students guild. It will be a democratic process,” he said.The senate is the chief academic organ of the university and discusses all academic matters affecting the university.Formerly, the students were represented by their respective faculty heads of department.Ends
