ANOTHER UPDF soldier was yesterday charged with treason and remanded in Kigo prison, home for terrorist suspects.Maurice Okore reports that Lt. Grace Peter Barihaihi, 35, a carpenter with Luweero Industries and resident of Nakasongola Army barracks, is the fifth suspect to be charged with treason. The suspects are said to be supporters of Col Kizza Besigye, the runner-up in the 2001 presidential elections, which President Yoweri Museveni won. Besigye now lives in exile.Barihaihi appeared before the Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Duncan Gaswaga.He is jointly charged with Dennis Murindwa, Besigye’s cousin and political aide, who is also wanted in court.Murindwa fled recently after he was released from Kampala Central Police Station where he had been detained on charges of recruiting rebels. Barihaihi returns to court on May 28.Ends
