By John Nzinjah MEMBERS of the Rwenzururu Veterans Development Association (RVDA) have pledged resolute support to the Government in ensuring security in the Rwenzori mountains.“We as veteran Rwenzururu fighters, shall not allow any more at any cost, any rebel group to spring up again from or through our mountains,” the RVDA chairman, Yolamu Mulima, said on Tuesday. The veteran Bakonzo-Bamba fighters also threatened to disown Kasese politicians, whom they said have been riding on the back of the people’s desire for the establishment of a Bakonzo-Bamba monarchy.“they have resorted to making voters cherish the idea of a kingdom (Obusinga) as stepping stones to attain political offices. This should stop,” they said.Mulima, was on Tuesday speaking at a one-day workshop for key members of the RVDA held at the Resident District Commissioner’s conference hall at Boma grounds in Kasese town. The workshop was organised by Kasese District Development Network (KADDE-NET) and sponsored by DED under the civil peace project in Kasese.Mulima condemned the politics of polarisation and asked the office of the RDC to call the leaders of camps to a meeting. There are two prominent political camps in the district one said to be led by the minister without portfolio, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, sometimes described as “Movement Cream” and another led by Loice Bwambale, that is said to be the “movement dilute” group.Dr. Kiyonga’s camp is strongly opposed to the idea of a Bakonzo-Bamba monarchy while the latter strongly supports the establishment of the cultural institution.Assistant Resident District Commissioner Paul Byakatonda said his office was committed to peace and reconciliation among all the people in Kasese district.
