By Albert Ayiga OndogaUGANDAN and DR. Congo security and customs officials have resolved to exchange documents accompanying goods on transit from Mombasa to the DR Congo via Kampala to eliminate tax evasion. The copies of the documents will be submitted to Goli customs in Nebbi and Mahagi in the DR. Congo for monitoring the movement of the goods. In a press release issued by the Nebbi Resident District Commissioner, Odok Peter W’Oceng, the resolution was reached during a joint security and border meeting between Nebbi district and Mahagi officials held at Nebbi Private Sector. Mahagi District Commissioner Joseph Orombi Wod Ayika led the Congolese delegation to the meeting.the Congolese customs officials complained that most goods in transit to the DR. Congo via Goli customs on the Ugandan side, were re-loaded on other trucks and their routes diverted. They also said some of the goods were sold within Uganda by some unscrupulous Ugandan and Congolese traders, resulting into loss of revenue for the DR Congo. Both delegations resolved to monitor the goods in transit.Ends
