By Geoffrey KamaliTwo men were yesterday beaten to death and their bodies dumped on Sir Apollo Kaggwa road, in yet another gruesome murder in Kampala this week. The incident is the second reported ‘silent killing’ within the city in a week, indicating a change of tactics from use of the gun to ‘silent’ murder’. Unlike previous incidents, there were no signs of guns used in the killing. Pathologists said the victims were not shot. But residents told the Police they heard gunshots within the area at about 3.00am, though in different positions. But the bodies did not bear any bullet wound. The identities of the victims have not been established. The Police said the two men might have been tied and beaten before their brutal death. They bore bruises, cuts and tether marks all over their bodies. They also had black marks on their buttocks and the backs, with chain marks on their swollen wrists. “They were energetic people of about 25-30 years. It appears, from my own observation, they were tied for sometime and beaten,†said Wandegeya DPC, Francis Oriokot. An elderly woman, a resident in the area, said she was awoken by a passer-by who said someone had been run-over by a car nearby. “When we took a closer look, there were not just one person but two men lying with their trousers pulled down to their knees,†she said. The bodies were taken to the city mortuary at Mulago. Ends
