Teenage girls from Kampala’s suburbs are flocking the Tri Star Apparel Textiles Limited plant at Bugolobi where some 1,000 girls are undergoing training, reports Edris Kisambira.Rosette Kebba, the administrative officer in-charge of the girls told The New Vision yesterday in her office at Bugolobi that, “every day, we receive girls coming here from town asking us to incorporate them into the training.” She could not say how many adding that those who have turn up inquire about how they can join but get turned away. “They are not so many, but they are coming,” she said.Kebba was reacting to media reports over the weekend that 25 girls, most of them from Bundibugyo district, had abandoned the training under unclear circumstances. She refuted the report, that appeared in the Saturday issue of The Monitor newspaper saying, “it is not true. There is no one who has left. It was wrong for The Monitor to say 25 girls have escaped, this is not a prison and it was not right for them to say the girls had escaped.” She said only four girls have left. “Those girls left at the beginning. they thought they would get jobs straight away,” she said.
