KOTIDO LC5 chairman, Calistus Adome Lokwii has appealed to the central government to provide funds for the feeding and maintenance of 836 pupils displaced by the insurgency in Kitgum and Pader districts.
Lokwii said the pupils who were camped in various schools in Kotido district did not have any food and other basic needs.
He said he had not considered the number of parents and other persons who had been forced to flee to Kotido district due to insecurity in Kitgum and Pader.
“These pupils have fled from one disaster area to another and as I speak now Kotido district does not have resources to look after them,” Lokwii said.
Lokwii was speaking during a workshop organised by the finance ministry to disseminate information on the poverty monitoring and evaluation strategy.
The workshop at Mt. Elgon Hotel, Mbale, was attended by local authorities from several districts, including Bugiri, Pallisa, Tororo, Busia and Kumi. Ends
