AFRICA champions Mike Kizza and Davis Lusimbo might have a chance to fight for the Commonwealth titles.

The two fighters in super feather and lightweight divisions on Saturday received their belts from Africa Boxing Union (ABU) ratings committee chairman Celestino Mindra, at a ceremony at Tourist Hotel.

“We have seriously started lobbying for them to receive Commonwealth title shots,” Mindra said at the belt presentation ceremony.

“It has really been difficult to get these fights, but now that we have two champions, I believe we stand better chances. There could be more fights for them even for bigger titles.”

Kizza, won the ABU super featherweight belt after a hard fought battle against former champion Francis “Machoman” Kiwanuka while Lusimbo outpointed Kenyan pugilist George Owano in a super lightweight bout in July.

The two will fight in the Commonwealth eliminators on October 27 at Sabrina’s Pub in Kampala and defend the continental crowns in December.

Promoters Godfrey Nyakana, Mark Mugwanya of Gobtex International, boxers and well wishers attended the belt presentation.
