Fred Kakeeto in Annabareports that Oryem made the appeal at a dinner organised by Algeria youth minister Boubakeur Benbouzied at his Algiers residence.
The minister, who led a contingent of 15 Cranes players and 17 officials, appealed to African leaders to use sports which is one of the best factors for building good cooperation among the countries.
He also urged Ugandans to explore business opportunities that exist among African countries.
“Sports is the uniting factor between countries,” he said.
Oryem had bilateral talks with the Algerian delegation before he was taken around the Federations Sports Centre, which houses the 22 Algerian sports bodies.
He thanked the Algerian government, the federation and the Embassy in Uganda for offering Uganda Cranes an opportunity while preparing for the Africa Nations Cup qualifying tie against Rwanda.
The minister vowed to support both teams in their friendly match today since they are forging unity through sports.
The Algerian minister said: “This is the beginning of building a relationship for both countries. In fact, it is a sign of uniting both countries through sports.”
Oryem also met the chairman of the organising committee for the 2003 Arab Games Yasfar Jaffer, who took him on a guided tour around the 80,000 capacity Olympic stadium.
The stadium complex was built in 1959.
Algeria will host the 2007 All Africa Games.
