THE Government is to divest itself from the activities of Uganda Museum and Antiquities Department and give it a semi-autonomous agency status for effective service delivery.
Vision Reporter writes that State minister for tourism Jovino Akaki said this last week while briefing members of the parliamentary committee on tourism, trade and industry led by its chairman, Zachary Olum. The committee was on a fact finding tour of the Uganda Museum to acquaint themselves with its activities and accordingly recommend measures for improvement.
“We have agreed as government to divest ourselves from handling the affairs of the institution and make it a semi-autonomous agency so that it attracts more funding from outside the Government for the implementation of its plans and programmes” Akaki said.
Olum thanked the ministry for hatching a policy initiative to transform the Museum into an agency. Ends
