EAST African Paints Manufacturers Limited (EAPML), local makers of the Sage brand paints, last week signed a memorandum with a Belgian firm, W/Lippens, for transfer of modern paint making technology to Uganda.
Sam Katabazi, the managing director of EAPML, signed for his company, while W/Lippens’ Project and Quality manager Johan Van daele signed for the Belgian firm, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
Katabazi said EAPML would inject $100,000 (about sh180m) into the venture that would involve training of staff and buying new machines.
Van Daele said technical co-operation between the two companies would boost the quality of paints in the region.
“Much of the industrial paints sold here are imported, whereas the raw materials for making them are available in the local market,” he said.
