THE French ambassador, Jean Bernard Thiant, on Thursday caused excitement in Mbarara when he identified a clean she-goat and asked that it be named after him.

Flanked by his wife and the head of cooperation at the embassy, Mrs Baherle Michelle, the envoy was inspecting a shed housing over 130 improved and local goats which had been artificially inseminated for better breeds.

He bought two goats and paid the subscription fee to become a member of the Mbarara Goat Farmers’ Association.

Thiant said he was happy to see the pioneer Artificially Inseminated Goats projects in East Africa taking root.

“I am happy to see healthy and clean goats and hope they will give you better profits and prospects,” he said.

He challenged the members to teach other farmers to offer their goats for the project, largely financed by his government, to be improved for more weight, meat and milk production.

Michelle contributed a goat to become the 135th member of the association.

The chairperson of the association Ms A.Guddo hailed the enormous financial, material and moral assistance from the French government for the success of the project.
