HIGH court bailiffs and auctioneers accompanied by 15 Police officers on Wednesday stormed Kendahi and Nyangereke villages in Kistwamba sub-county, Kasese district, evicting over 300 people.

The eviction followed a high Court ruling of a land dispute between Timothy Baluku, Josephat Maate, David Lyengonzi and David Lusaya against Constantine Bwambale and Joseph Maate as defendants. There were over 34 families living on the disputed land as squatters.

The eviction had stalled for over two months following violence that erupted between workers of the court bailiffs and auctioneers and the squatters at the fist attempt to evict them.

The resident district commissioner, Musa Ecweru, intervened to cool down the situation when the squatters brought out spears, pangas and axes threatening to shed blood.

However, the October 30 operation executed by Ndolerire High Court Bailiffs and Auctioneers was carried out under heavy deployment of the Police.

At least 34 houses belonging to squatters were destroyed. Some of the evicted people said they were not given enough time to prepare themselves to vacate the disputed land.
