A SENIOR Four student of Highfield Community College in Matugga, 16kms on the Kampala- Gulu highway became one of the first casualties of this year’s Ordinary Level national examinations that started on Monday, reports Geoffrey Kamali.

Seventeen-year-old Olive Babirye left home in the morning, hoping to sit her physics exam. She was surprised when she tried to enter the examination room but was stopped by the headmaster, Mr. Richard Okumu, who punched and kicked her into unconsciousness.

She had been expelled from school. Okumu and one of the school directors, Joy Lubega, were arrested and taken to Kawempe Police station.

“It’s true we are holding them here. We hope to charge them as soon as we are done with our investigation,” said a CID officer who refused to be named.

The exams had to be delayed for over 30 minutes as the scuffle went on. Babirye was rushed to Mirembe Medical Centre in Matugga town.
