KAMPALA City Council FC fans have called off a boycott of the club’s matches following their fruitful talks with mayor Ssebana Kizito. “I call upon all fans to attend the league’s opening match between KCC and URA,” said Aldrine Nsubuga, leader of a pressure group that had threatened to secede from KCC, report James Bakama and Norman Katende.

The change of heart followed Ssebana’s acceptance of the fans’ demands to hold a general assembly. Ssebana, who is also club patron, set January 5 as assembly date. Registration is on December 7 at the City Hall.

The fans might have called off the boycott, but their anger towards the club’s executive has not reduced. Club chairman James Ssegane got a rude awakening to this attitude Thursday.

Ssegane, flanked by his vice chairman John Matovu, was booed when he attempted to address the fans at Lugogo.

The Mayor’s decision is reported to have angered some executive members opposed to yielding to fans demands. They have threatened to resign.

Yet another morale booster for the fans’ was a sh5m payment to new Danish coach Jan Fray ahead of today’s league opening match against URA.
