WOMEN leaders in Jinja district have appealed to the Government to advise manufacturers of female condoms to design better ones, reports Esther Mukyala

The women made the appeal during training on the legal aspects of HIV/AIDS at Jinja Vocational Training Institute recently.

A training-of-trainers workshop organised by the National Association of Women Organisations in Uganda chairperson, Lovisa Kabuula, was attended by participants from all over the district.

Participants argued that the female condoms on the market were complicated to wear and that they made a lot of noise during sexual intercourse.

They said that was the reason why most women did not want to use them.
They observed the need for sensitisation programmes on the proper use of the female condom as a family planning method and for use in the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

Betty Mbulante, a Police officer, said she had received several complaints from women that they got pregnant even though their partners claimed they were using a condom. She encouraged women to be involved when their partners were putting on the condom.
