ZONE Five boxing commission president David Agong has blamed UABF for failing to send the Uganda Bombers for the FESCAABA championships that started in Nairobi on Sunday.
Agong said it was the duty of the federation and not the government to finance teams. “It is unfortunate the boxers were let down by their own federation after such preparations,†he said.
Uganda’s absence from the regional boxing contest was felt as only 33 entrants from Kenya(12),Tanzania(6),Zimbabwe(4), Mauritius(8) and Seychelles(3) made it.
Kenya had five boxers receiving byes to the final.
Wladimir Klitschko again showed he is a major force in the heavyweight division, recording a 10th-round technical knockout of American Jameel McCline to retain his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) title on Saturday.
The Ukrainian, whose elder brother Vitali is set to challenge Britain’s Lennox Lewis for the world heavyweight crown in March, dominated the contest before flooring McCline late in the 10th round.
On the same bill, Floyd Mayweather Jr scored a unanimous points victory over Mexican challenger Jose Luis Castillo to retain his World Boxing Council lightweight title. Mayweather Jr won 115-113 on the scorecards of two judges and 116-113 on the
third.Mayweather Jr earned $2.4 million.
