THE Cranes were thrown into panic yesterday because of a fear of being stranded here due to lack of funds.
FUFA treasurer Patrick Isiagi was expected to financially boost the cash-strapped team by paying for its return journey. But he shocked everyone here on arrival from Kampala on Wednesday by announcing that he had no money. Isiagi, who came for Uganda’s semi-final against Kenya, said funds for the team’s journey were still being mobilised in Kampala.
It was late yesterday when the team led by Chris Kalibala got an assurance from Kampala.
The Cranes were told that an arrangement had been worked out to clear the team’s travel expenses from Kampala’s Akamba Bus service offices.
But the relief was shortlived with news that the travel company had rejected FUFA’s request.
By press time, FUFA was attempting to transfer money via a forex bureau. The only cause for optimism in the camp at the lakeside town last evening was a $2000 cash prize if they beat Rwanda and finish third today.
