POLICE prosecutors will soon be phased out and let to do their original duty of investigation, the deputy director or public prosecutions, Amos Ngoloobe, has said.Edith Kimuli reports that in the bid to phase out Police prosecutors, the directorate of Public Prosecutions has opened up 12 new stations countrywide to house resident state prosecutors.Ngoloobe told The New Vision recently that it is the directorate’s duty to prosecute offenders, but the police have been helping because the directorate lacked enough staff. He said over the past couple of years, they have been training state prosecutors, to work in ‘smaller stations’ and will be answerable to state attorneys in the area. The stations opened include, Apac with three state prosecutors, Sembabule, Nebbi Ibanda, Moyo, Kisoro and Adjumani with two. Others are Kamwenge, Kyenjojo, Moroto and Kiboga with one each, while Wakiso would be run by a state attorney assisted by a state prosecutor.State attorneys countrywide have been transferred. This is done every two years to avoid familiarisation. Ends
