By William Muwonge TWO chess’ big names are likely to miss the NRM Open in Kampala this weekend due to academic pressures. The six round swiss tournament has attracted over 50 players. Isaac Munanira and Stephen Kawuma, civil engineering students are Makerere University, are preparing for their examinations starting next Monday. “They are preparing for examinations and they are yet to make up their minds,” said tournament arbiter Peter Maguzi yesterday. The two youngsters have enjoyed a good run in the annual event that coincides with NRM anniversary festivities. But the other stars including title holder Bob Bibasa are set for action. Bibasa, also national champion, will come up against Grace Nsubuga, Shadrack Kantinti, Steven Opio and national junior champion Farouk Fauza. Fauza lost to Bibasa in the last round last year. Ladies’ title holder Fatuma Ndagire has also entered the tournament, the third on this year’s Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) calendar.
