Like the late Philly Bongoley Lutaaya who sang about AIDS, Magoola on January 29 2001 released a moving song on Sickle cell disease. Magoola, a confessed sickle cell carrier, moved crowds when she sang, “I’m a sickler, I’m not afraid to say it. I’m a sickler, I’m not afraid to live. I’m a sickler, take me as I am.” Being a carrier means Magoola is not suffering from the disease but if she marries another carrier their children are likely to have sickle cell disease. “I lost two brothers to sickle cells in the early seventies. Some of my brothers and sisters are sicklers and others carriers,” she said. ends
