HEAVY shooting rocked Iganga town on Saturday as the riot police dispersed rowdy supporters who converged at the last LC5 candidates’ rally.

By Esther Mukyala and Abubaker Mukose HEAVY shooting rocked Iganga town on Saturday as the riot police dispersed rowdy supporters who converged at the last LC5 candidates’ rally. The incumbent, Patrick Bageya’s supporters became violent when the another candidate, Asuman Kyafu, got up to address the rally. They threw stones at other groups of supporters, at the police and district officials. The district police commander, Elisam Mugisha, said the police were compelled to fire live bullets in the air in order to disperse Bageya’s supporters. He said the meeting held at Iganga High Secondary School ended prematurely at about 4:30pm. There was commotion at the rally as supporters fled for their lives. Mugisha said there were no injuries reported and added that they had arrested a number of people. Bageya is battling against Peter Edizawa and Shaban Nkutu. A source said the candidates ferried supporters from various villages, who caused the violence. It was revealed that the vice president, Dr. Wandira Kazibwe who is also the MP Kigulu South and the state minister for information, Basoga Nsadhu, who is also the Busiki MP support Kyafu. Ends
