THE President of Uganda Law Society, John Matovu, has criticised the Political Organisations Bill for putting in place a restrictive rather than enabling environment for democracy in the country.

By Cyprian Musoke THE President of Uganda Law Society, John Matovu, has criticised the Political Organisations Bill for putting in place a restrictive rather than enabling environment for democracy in the country.“The Political Organisations Bill seeks to regulate activities of political parties and organisations in a number of ways, among which is the elaborate and tedious procedure of registration that curtails the democratic process,” Matovu said.He was contributing to a debate on the constitutional review process and the Parties Bill, organised by the Frederich Ebert Stiftung Foundation at hotel Africana, on Thursday. He criticised article 8, which restricts public meetings before a final certificate is granted.Ends
