Church leaders and parents in Kasese district have expressed anger over the cancellation of the 2001 PLE results for some schools in the district due to examination malpractice, reports John Nzinjah.Nine examination centres had their results cancelled affecting 346 candidates, the District Inspector of Schools, Joshua Mupanda, said yesterday after collecting the results from the ministry headquarters.“The Bishop is very bitter with headteachers whose schools had their results cancelled. That might be the end of their stay in church-founded schools,” Rev. Benson Baguma from the South Rwenzori Diocese, said. “The church has invested in these schools to supplement the Government efforts to ensure that conditions at the schools are favourable for teachers,” Baguma added. He said church leaders would make a decision about headteachers who were involved in the exam malpractices. On Monday, five parents whose children’s results were cancelled stormed the offices of The New Vision in Kasese town, saying they had come to show their bitterness over the cancellation of the results.“We have come to tell you newsmen that we are prepared to stone those headteachers involved in exam malpractices causing our children to lose a full year of study,” a man in his late 40s said. The five angry parents, one of them a woman, identified themselves to The New Vision but asked to remain anonymous.“If the Government does not prosecute them, we shall stone them. Why don’t they teach the children,” they asked.Ends
