By A. G. Musamali THE Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) yesterday said multiparty groups in Uganda had urged Commonwealth heads of government to impose sanctions on President Museveni’s government.UPC national chairman Alhaj Badru Wegulo told The New Vision that the multipartists last week sent a petition to the Commonwealth leaders ahead of their summit in Coolum, Australia, urging them to stop offering diplomatic support and regular financial assistance to Uganda.Wegulo said other signatories of the petition included the Conservative Party (CP), the Democratic Party (DP), the National Democratic Forum (NDF), the Justice Forum, and the Reform Agenda.Wegulo said the people of Uganda have no voice and the assistance enables the Museveni government to divert local resources for its own entrenchment, adding that the funds are also used to fuel corruption through recruitment of support. He said NRM is a political party.Ends
