The experts develop and share knowledge and expertise with local organisations with the goal of making them better equipped for their work in structural alleviation of poverty among women and men. The main themes in SNV programmes are Natural Resource Management, Local Governance, Private Sector Development and Gender. SNV has worked in Uganda since 1989 and currently focuses its activities in the Central, Western, West Nile regions and intends to extend activities to the Karamoja region. The Private Sector Development Programme of SNV Uganda is a fast-growing programme with an expanding team of experts. SNV hopes that by strengthening the capacity of institutions and organizations of the Medium, Small and Micro Enterprise sector in the marginalized area of the country, that these institutions/organisations will in turn be in a better position to improve skills and create jobs for the growing number of jobless and under-employed people, especially women. SNV will contribute to this through technical assistance in the sectors of Financial Services, Market Linkages, Business Development Services, Community Tourism and Skills & Technology upgrading and Organizational Development.SNV is looking for an inspiring team leader with extensive experience in the private sector's Medium, Small and Micro enterprise development sector. The applicant must have excellent capacities as manager with a vision and strategy of the private sector programme in line with the SNV Uganda Country Multi annual plan. The person selected will co-ordinate and lead the Private Sector Development Team and will support the improvement of relevant structures, methodologies and procedures for the sub-programme.TEAM LEADER / PROGRAMME MANAGER PSDDuty station: KampalaThe position will be for a period of three years, with possibility for extension. Only serious applicants, who are able to demonstrate an appropriate and relevant background are invited to react.Applying candidates must have the following:w A minimum 6 years of relevant working experience with Medium, Small and Micro Private Sector Enterprise sector.w Ability and willingness to travel frequently to remote areasw A professional balance between advisory and management practicesw Affinity with SNV values (poverty alleviation / gender equality / inter-cultural co-operation)w Proven commitment in the development of the Private Sectorw A solid reputation in working with people- Interpersonal skillsThe main tasks to be executed through this posting are:l Facilitate vision and strategy development of the PSD programme in SNV Ugandal Representative of PSD team on the management teaml Team development and guidance - Co-ordinate and coach a team of technical advisorsl Responsibility for personnel management of the PSD Teaml Facilitate the development of appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools for the Private Sector programme.l Facilitate the identification and formulation of new programme activitiesl Facilitate national networking and lobbying of SMMEs, regional networking with SNV experts and others in the East and Southern Africa.l Development of a coherent networking programme and maintain sound and cordial working relations with all programme stakeholders.l Give technical advice in general Business Development Services to partner organizationsCandidates should have the following qualifications and experience:w Academic background Masters or higher Level - MBA, Economics, Commerce or equivalentw Minimum six years working experience in a relevant fieldw Three years working in a management positionw Excellent communication and public relations skillsw Proven ability to integrate gender approach in developmentw Computer skills in text editing, spreadsheet applications, data basesw Proven experience in managing and coaching peopleThe closing date for the applications is March 20, 2002.
