By Allan TuryagumaTHE pro-Obugabe activists in Ankole have asked President Yoweri Museveni to honour his promise and give them audience to discuss the restoration of kingship in Ankole. James Kahigiriza, 80, the premier of former Ankole kingdom, said on Sunday that Museveni had promised to meet them last August but had not given them audience.“We appeal to him as the father of the nation to honour his pledge and meet us so that he can listen to our views about the Obugabe,” he said. Kahigiriza, who was accompanied by Humphrey Kategaya, the secretary to Nkore Cultural Trust, a pro-Obugabe pressure group, was talking to journalists at his home in Rwebishuri, a suburb in Mbarara municipality. He was speaking at celebrations to mark his three years of marriage to his new wife Mable, his first wife having died about five years ago. “We have written to Museveni twice this year but he has not responded,” Kahigiriza said.He said in one of the letters they complained about the former king’s palace at Kamukuzi being vandalised by officials of Mbarara district local government. Kahigiriza said they want access to the royal regalia and famous historical sites so that they can improve them to become tourist attractions.
