Museveni My Friend, Ssebaana Tells MPs

By Okello JabweliKAMPALA mayor John Ssebaana Kizito has said President Yoweri Museveni is his friend, contrary to reports that the President dislikes him. Ssebaana was yesterday appearing before the parliamentary sessional committee on public service and local government. The committee, chaired by Beatrice Byenkya (Hoima), was mandated by Parliament to probe Kampala City Council.“The President is a good friend of mine. We can sit together to discuss any issue. We’ve done it before and I am going to talk to him soon. I have made my preparation,” he said.Ssebaana was answering a query by Capt. Charles Byaruhanga (Kibaale) on the working relationship between him and the President. Museveni strongly de-campaigned Ssebaana during the recent mayoral elections.“My policy has been not to answer what the President has said. That is how I was brought up.The President is my boss and once he’s said something, I can’t just answer back,” he said. Ssebaana and his town clerk Gordon Mwesige appeared separately before the committee.On the proposed Mengo municipality, Ssebaana asked the committee to wait for negotiations between the Government and the Buganda Government.Ends
