THE Government is to construct 968 health centres as a measure to improve the health of the people, the State minister for health in-charge of general duties, Capt. Mike Mukula, has said.

Mike Mukula, has said. He was recently commissioning Kisaalizi health centre in Lwampanga sub-county, Nakasongola district.Mukula said the government was aiming at improving health by making it easy for the patients to reach a health unit. He said 17 health units had so far been constructed and they would be given drugs. Mukula warned that anyone found stealing drugs from the centres would be arrested.He said the government would launch a malaria control programme and provide a spray pump and condoms which would be distributed to the youth in the district. The Nakasongola LC5 chairman, Christopher Bagonza, said there was improvement in the latrine coverage from 33% to 80%.He said it would imrove further if the ministry recruited professional health workers from the district.Bagonza said with the help of the AIDS information centre, Nakasongola has established a site for voluntary counselling and testing for HIV at Nakasongola health centre.The area Member of Parliament, Muruli Mukasa, appealed to the health ministry to improve the conditions of health units.Ends
