THE rebel Allied Democratic Force’s (ADF) chief political commissar (CPC) and the chief of combat operations have been killed in a UPDF offensive in eastern DR Congo, reports John Thawite.A well-placed military source told The New Vision in Kasese that the two were killed late last week in the Isale mountain forests in eastern Congo.Confirming the incident at the weekend, the Rwenzori Mountain Alpine Brigade Commander, Lt. Col. Adula Mawa Muhindo, named the CPC only as Mugaga and his colleague as Loduku alias Tiger.Mawa said Tiger was a rebel army commander having replaced Henry Matovu Birungi, also known as Cobra, whom the army killed late December in Kamwenge district.Mawa said the army has been trailing the two rebels until they hit them at Mwalika, DRC.Mugaga is said to have commanded several attacks including one in which Mawa was shot and injured in the neck in eastern Congo, about two years ago.Mawa was at the time personal assistant to the Army Commander, Maj. Gen. James Kazini. Kazini was then the army chief of staff and overall commander of the war against ADF, in western Uganda and in Congo.
