German fails Gayaza top girl

GAYAZA High School, one of Uganda’s traditional leading schools, was one of the best performing in the country despite not having any of its students among the best five performers in Wakiso district.

Catherine Aloikin, emerged the best science student in the school with four As in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and German and a Credit 4 in General Paper. She was, however, not ranked among the top science students in the country because she offered German, which is not considered a pure science subject.Judith Tindyebwa, who got two As in Literature, Divinity and two Bs in History and Economics was the best arts student in the school. She scored Credit 3 in General Paper.The best science student in the country was Edward Twase of Uganda Martyrs Secondary School, Namugongo, who got four As in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Pure Mathematics and a Credit 3 in General Paper. Clare Amanya, also from Uganda Martyrs Secondary School emerged the best overall arts student with four As in Literature, History, Economics and Divinity. She got a Distinction 2 in General Paper.A total of 90 students sat for the 2001 ‘A’ level examinations in Gayaza High School. Of these, 24 got above 20 points while 71 got above 15 points. The school authorities said this year’s overall performance was better than that of 2000.
