By Vision ReporterLinda Nakandi, a female student of Mengo S.S, stunned her room-mates of Sarah Girls Hostel of Makerere Kikoni Zone when she communicated to her father on the phone while kneeling down. On May 13, her father called and as Nakandi got the phone, she realised that it was him. She immediately went down and continued talking: “Hullo, Taata, nze Nakandi...Ndi bulungi... Muliyo mutya ssebo... Ndi wano nsoma bitabo (Hullo Daddy...I’m Nakandi...I’m fine, what about you sir? I’m just reading books now,’’ she said as her friends laughed. When her fiends asked her why she communicated while kneeling, she had a defensive answer for them.“You know in Buganda culture, a son or a daughter has to respect elders, especially parents. So it would appear a shame, queer and astonishing to me if I just stood like an electricity pole and then talk to him. I will ever glorify my parents wherever I would be whether they are seeing me or not so long as they are alive and are supportive to me,” she said.
