IT was a regal but fun-filled affair as the Basoga and their well-wishers gathered for a dinner dance organised by the Busoga young professionals on Saturday night, reports Tina Turyagyenda.Yet the dancing, drinking and making merry belied a sombre cause, the proceeds from the highly attended function at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala will be used to establish a bursary scheme to benefit needy girls. "We have experienced the power of education in our lives," the young professionals' chairperson, Suzanne Batwala Kavuma, said. She added, "With that power, we can help improve the lives of our less fortunate kinsmen in Busoga region."This comes after Kyabazinga Henry Muloki launched an initiative for the education of the girl-child in Busoga in November last year. Although Busoga has had a "glorious history of scholarly excellence", there is a rising state of girls dropping out of school."It gives me pleasure that my people have joined me in the struggle and I will give it all the support it deserves," Muloki, who was the guest of honour said.Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, state minister for energy Daudi Migereko, MPs Beatrice Magoola and Harry Kasigwa attended the party.Ends
