Mbarara district chief internal auditor Martin Ahimbisibwe has unearthed a scam in which 321 primary school teachers claimed arrears totalling sh129.2m, when they had received the money earlier.

By Ebenezer Bifubyeka Mbarara district chief internal auditor Martin Ahimbisibwe has unearthed a scam in which 321 primary school teachers claimed arrears totalling sh129.2m, when they had received the money earlier.a six-page document from the district speaker, Dominick Kashaaki Katusiime, on Tuesday revealed the names of the teachers and their schools, the financial years claimed, cheque numbers and the amount claimed. A report from the audit department said the listed teachers submitted claims totalling to sh129,212,266 for the period of 1993/1994 to 1999/2001 and yet they had been paid. Katusiime said teachers involved in the scam should provide satisfactory explanations for their actions.He said if the suspects failed to deliver convincing explanations, the office of the Chief Administrative Officer, which demanded for the investigation, would have to take legal action against them.
