3 Moroto Lcs Die In Accident

By kenneth otim and nathan etenguSix officials from Moroto district local government died instantly and two others were injured when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck at Mukura in Kumi on Tuesday night.The dead included the LC3 chairpersons of Lopei, Lokopo and Lotome. They were identified as Achuka, Lokure and Oliver Ojakala. The driver of the vehicle identified as William Achia also died on the spot. The two other victims could not be identified as they were said to have hitch-hiked a lift to Moroto.The officials were returning from Kyankwanzi where they had been attending a retreat for the revitalisation of the cooperative movement.The LC5 chairman, Mr. Terence Achia Sodium, and his escort, Mr. William Achia, sustained compound fractures on their right femur, broken ribs and concussions.Achia and his escort were admitted to Soroti hospital. Achia underwent an operation in the abdomen and the “splitting” of the femur.A tube was inserted into the airspace of the lungs to suck out the escaping air that had accumulated in his chest.Soroti Hospital superintendent, Dr. Bernard Odu, said Achia would have to be transferred to Mulago Hospital for specialised treatment.“The ribs pierced his lungs, causing the air to escape. The femur bones have to be screwed and fixed using a plate. All these can only be done inMulago,” Odu said.He said the chairman’s condition was improving by yesterday morning.Ends
