300 Gulu IDPs Flee To Nebbi

OVER 300 internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Anaka and Porongo in Nwoya county, Gulu district, have crossed into the neighbouring Jonam county in Nebbi district following recent attacks from the Lord’s Resistance Army.

He said by Tuesday, 129 people had been registered in Pakwach town council at Nyakatitaa village in Puvungu parish while 98 were registered in Panyimur sub-county at Singlar B village in Ganda parish. He said registrations in Pakwach, Panyango and Wadelai sub-counties were still in progress. Omach, in a letter to the Minister for Disaster Preparedness appealed for food assistance. “The estimated number of displaced people from Gulu district is over 300. These people lack shelter, food, clothes, blankets and cooking utensils and are desperate for assistance. There is also need for medical attention particularly in Panyimur where there is an outbreak of Cholera,” Omach said in the letter copied to ministers of health, state for security and public service.“I therefore request for government’s immediate intervention with food utensils, blankets and medicine to deal with this situation,” the letter added.Ends
